Our spirit
Dalilna exists so that people can find a mosque, a halal meal, a trusted shop or a helpful service with confidence. That only works if what people share here is honest and written with good manners.
Our tradition places great value on adab, truthfulness and kindness in speech. We ask everyone to bring that same good character to Dalilna: say what is true, say it fairly, and say it in a way you would be comfortable hearing yourself.
- Be honest: share what you actually experienced or know.
- Be kind: criticise a service, never a person's dignity.
- Be helpful: write for the next person who needs this information.
- Assume good intentions in others, and correct mistakes gently.
Everyone is welcome
Our community is wonderfully diverse: Moroccan, Turkish, Syrian, Somali, Egyptian, Iraqi, Surinamese, Indonesian, Dutch and many more; Sunni and Shia; different madhhabs and traditions; Muslims and non-Muslims; Arabic, Turkish, Dutch, English and many other languages.
Everyone who uses Dalilna respectfully is welcome. Differences of opinion and practice are normal and should be treated with respect. Dalilna is not a place for sectarian debate, for judging other people's faith, or for looking down on anyone's background.
Writing helpful reviews
Good reviews are the heart of Dalilna. They help families decide where to eat, pray, shop and get help.
- Write about your own first-hand experience. Do not review places you have not visited or used.
- Be specific: what did you order, what service did you use, what was good and what could be better?
- Be fair and balanced. One bad day can happen; describe it honestly without exaggeration.
- Review the place and the service, not people's appearance, origin, religion or private life.
- Write one review per place. If things change, update your existing review instead of writing a new one.
- Keep it relevant. Political arguments, unrelated stories and personal disputes do not belong in reviews.
Halal and community facts
Community facts, such as whether a place is halal, whether Arabic is spoken, or whether there is a prayer space, are among the most important information on Dalilna. People rely on them for their religious practice, so please treat them with care.
- Only vote on facts you actually know, for example because you asked the staff, saw a certificate or visited recently.
- If you are unsure, do not vote. A missing answer is better than a wrong one.
- Questions about halal certification should be factual and polite, for example asking which certifying body is used.
- Do not accuse people of lying, of not being real Muslims, or declare anyone outside the faith (takfir). That is never acceptable here.
- Do not make damaging claims about a business that you cannot support with facts. False accusations can be defamation and may be removed.
Halal standards differ between scholars and certifiers. Describe what you know (for example, the certificate or the source of the meat) and let others decide for themselves.
Photos
Photos make Dalilna much more useful. Please follow these simple rules:
- Only upload photos you took yourself or have the right to share.
- Keep them relevant: the food, the building, the menu, the prayer space, the products.
- Do not upload photos where other people can be clearly recognised without their consent, especially children.
- Never photograph women or families at a mosque or elsewhere without their permission, and respect prayer areas and private spaces.
- Do not show private information such as licence plates, receipts with names, addresses or screens with personal data.
- No sexual, violent or shocking images, and no images with text that breaks these guidelines.
What is not allowed
The following content and behaviour are not allowed anywhere on Dalilna, including reviews, photos, suggestions, replies, announcements and your profile:
- Hate speech or discrimination against anyone based on religion (including any faith, not only Islam), ethnicity, nationality, skin colour, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age.
- Harassment, bullying, intimidation or threats of any kind.
- Doxxing: sharing someone's private details such as home address, phone number or personal photos.
- Sectarian insults or attacks on other madhhabs, sects or religious groups.
- Profanity, insults and vulgar language.
- Sexual or sexually suggestive content.
- Violence, calls for violence, or support for or glorification of extremism or terrorism. This is also illegal in the Netherlands and the EU.
- Misinformation that can cause harm, such as false halal claims or falsely reporting that a place has closed.
- Impersonating another person, business, mosque or organisation.
- Any illegal content or promotion of illegal activities.
- Private personal data of others, including your own sensitive data in public texts.
Spam, fake reviews and conflicts of interest
Dalilna is only useful if reviews and ratings can be trusted. That is why we do not allow:
- Spam, advertising or promotional content in reviews, photos or suggestions.
- Links, phone numbers or social media handles posted to promote something.
- Fake reviews, or reviews written by someone who did not experience the place.
- Review swapping (“I review you, you review me”) or organised rating campaigns.
- Paid reviews, or reviews written in exchange for discounts, gifts or other benefits.
- Conflicts of interest: owners, staff, family members or board members reviewing their own place, or reviewing competitors.
- Creating multiple accounts to boost or harm a place.
For businesses and mosques
We are glad to have businesses and mosques on Dalilna. When you claim a listing, you take on extra responsibility towards the community.
- Keep your information accurate and up to date: opening hours, address, prayer times, services and contact details.
- Any halal or other certificates you show must be genuine, valid and actually belong to your business.
- Reply to reviews respectfully, even when you disagree. Thank people, explain calmly and offer to resolve problems.
- Do not offer rewards, discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews or ratings.
- Do not pressure, threaten or ask customers to change or remove their reviews. If a review breaks these guidelines, report it instead.
- Announcements and events must be genuine and relevant to your community.
- Announcements may not be used for political campaigning, and fundraising must be genuine and transparent. Misleading or fraudulent appeals for money are strictly forbidden.
Misuse of a claimed listing may lead to the loss of business or mosque features and, in serious cases, removal of the account.
Staying safe: block and report
If something feels wrong, you are never on your own. You can:
- Block a user from their profile using the “…” menu. You will no longer see their content.
- Report a user from the same “…” menu.
- Report a review, photo or reply that breaks these guidelines.
- Report a place if its information is wrong, it has closed, or the listing is fake or harmful.
Reports are confidential. The person you report will not see who reported them.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, do not wait for us: call 112.
What happens after a report
Our moderators review reports as quickly as they can and decide what to do based on these guidelines and the law. Depending on the situation we may:
- Leave the content in place if it does not break the guidelines.
- Remove or hide the content.
- Send a warning to your Dalilna inbox explaining what went wrong.
- Temporarily suspend an account.
- Permanently remove an account in case of repeated or serious violations.
Illegal content, such as threats, terror glorification or child abuse material, may be reported to the police or other competent authorities.
Automated filters
To protect the community, Dalilna uses automated filters that detect spam, profanity and other content that is likely to break these guidelines. These filters may block a review, reply or suggestion before it is published, or send it to a moderator for review.
No filter is perfect. If you think your content was blocked by mistake, rephrase it or contact us.
Appeals and questions
If you believe we removed your content or restricted your account by mistake, you can ask us to look again. Send an email to privacy@dalilna.app with your username and a short explanation. A person, not an automated system, will review your appeal.
You can use the same address for any questions or suggestions about these guidelines. Dalilna may update these guidelines over time; we will let you know about important changes in the app.
A reminder about privacy
Reviews, photos, vote counts and replies on Dalilna are public. Think before you share, and never post your own or anyone else's phone number, address, ID or other private details in public content.
To learn how Dalilna handles your personal data, please read our Privacy Policy.
Thank you for helping keep Dalilna a trustworthy and welcoming place for everyone.
